Your First Appointment

Dr. Rich is always happy to welcome new individual patients and families to her practice. Every new patient joining our practice is unique, and we want to be certain that we set aside appropriate time in Dr. Rich’s schedule to discuss any concerns, hopes, or fears that you may have about your dental or physical health.

The process of setting up a new patient appointment is best initiated with a phone call. Many patients join our practice as long-term general dental clients, but Dr. Rich is also happy to partner with your current dentist or primary care physician in providing treatment for a specific condition only. New patient appointments can be made to discuss any of the individual treatment options listed below:

•	General and preventive dentistry
•	Cosmetic, functional, and short-term orthodontics
•	Obstructive sleep apnea appliances
•	TMJ disorders
•	Cosmetic restoration for one tooth or multiple teeth
•	Childhood growth and development, including airway evaluation
•	Advanced periodontal therapy
•	Implant restoration
•	Full-mouth reconstruction
•	Complex combination treatments
•	Removal of metal fillings

Depending on the type of evaluation you request and the complexity of your dental and medical history, the time set aside for your initial appointment may vary.

A Note About Dental Cleanings

In general, we prefer not to schedule a cleaning in combination with your first dental appointment. There are some exceptions to this rule. Children and individuals with disabilities are often scheduled for an initial exam and cleaning at the same appointment.

For most adult patients, however, a cleaning time is not reserved until after Dr. Rich has had the chance to evaluate your periodontal health. Periodontal conditions can change very rapidly in the mouth – sometimes even in a matter of weeks. Unfortunately, these conditions cannot be evaluated over the phone. Only after a full examination of your teeth and gums has been performed, can Dr. Rich accurately determine what type and length of cleaning will best meet your needs.
